The 3rd Seniers Fitness Skills Grand Competition

At 10:00 a.m. on July 12, 2026, the Opening Ceremony and Fitness Showcase of the 3rd Toronto Seniors Fitness Games, organized by the Colorful Cultural Association and co-organized by Better Life for Seniors, was successfully held in Toronto.


Representatives from 34 community organizations, together with nearly 1,000 senior participants and fitness enthusiasts, gathered to celebrate health, friendship, and cultural exchange. Through a wide variety of fitness performances, the event showcased the energy, optimism, and vibrant spirit of older adults while promoting active aging and multicultural community engagement.

Accompanied by the inspiring March of the Athletes, the 34 participating teams entered the main venue in an orderly procession, led by their sign bearers. As each team passed the reviewing stand, enthusiastic applause filled the hall while photographers and videographers captured the athletes' confident smiles and energetic spirit, reflecting the vitality and enthusiasm of today's senior community.


Distinguished guests attending the opening ceremony included Member of Parliament Jean Yip (Scarborough), Member of Parliament Maggie Chi (North York), Member of Provincial Parliament Aris Babikian (Scarborough), Toronto City Councillor Shelley Carroll (North York), and Markham City Councillor Amanda Collucci.


Congratulatory messages were also received from Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow, Member of Parliament Shaun Chen, Member of Parliament Billy Pang, and Toronto City Councillor Nick Mantas, who were unable to attend due to prior commitments. In their messages, they warmly congratulated the organizers and participants and praised the event for promoting healthy aging, strengthening community connections, and fostering multicultural understanding.

The ceremony officially began with the singing of O Canada, as all participants stood together with pride. This was followed by the performance of the official Games Song, specially composed by the Organizing Committee. Its inspiring melody and uplifting lyrics reflected the spirit of unity, friendship, and healthy living.



Ms. Xiaoping (Esther) Hao, President of the Colorful Cultural Association, delivered the welcome address on behalf of the organizing committee. She expressed her sincere appreciation to all participating organizations, distinguished guests, volunteers, and supporters. She noted that the Seniors Fitness Games serve not only as a platform to promote health, vitality, and teamwork, but also as an important opportunity to strengthen community connections, encourage friendship, preserve Chinese cultural traditions, and promote multicultural harmony in Canada. She encouraged Chinese community organizations to continue contributing to Canadian society while celebrating and sharing their cultural heritage.



Guest speakers then congratulated the organizers on the tremendous success of the event. They noted that the Games attracted nearly 1,000 senior participants and highlighted its important role in encouraging healthy lifestyles, improving seniors' physical well-being, creating opportunities for social interaction, and strengthening community unity. Following the speeches, the distinguished guests joined all participating athletes for a commemorative group photo.

The opening ceremony


The opening ceremony concluded with a spectacular cultural performance. The Shaanxi Association presented the powerful drum performance Horse Racing, followed by the joint performance Celebration by the Colorful Cultural Association Waist Drum Team and the Shaanxi Ansai Waist Drum Team. Their energetic and passionate performance received enthusiastic applause. The ceremony concluded with a popular fitness dance performed jointly by the Colorful Cultural Association and participants from various teams, bringing the atmosphere to its peak.

Traditional Chinese fitness programs


The morning session featured 20 teams presenting traditional Chinese fitness programs, including Tai Chi, Mulan Boxing, and Health Qigong, demonstrating the elegance and cultural richness of traditional Chinese wellness practices.



Group dance performances

At 1:15 p.m., the group dance performances began, with 22 teams showcasing line dancing, group dance, ballroom dance, street dance, and other styles. Each performance displayed excellent teamwork and artistic expression.



Aerobic fitness performances


From 3:15 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., aerobic fitness performances featured fitness dance, square dance, waist drum, ethnic rhythmic exercise, tapping exercise, yoga, and aerobic workouts. Every team demonstrated careful preparation, creativity, and enthusiasm, earning warm applause from the audience throughout the afternoon.





Compared with previous years, this year's Games were held for the first time in a spacious indoor venue, providing a comfortable environment, improved facilities, and ample seating for both participants and spectators. The high standard of preparation by every participating team resulted in performances of noticeably higher quality than previous years, reflecting the continued growth and vitality of fitness activities within Toronto's Chinese senior community.


The successful conclusion of the 3rd Toronto Seniors Fitness Games once again demonstrated the importance of promoting healthy aging, lifelong fitness, cultural exchange, and community engagement, while leaving all participants with lasting memories of friendship, health, and celebration
